New York State law requires every police department and county sheriff's office to report any occurrence in which a police officer or peace officer employs the use of force under the following circumstances: When an officer engages in conduct which results in the death or serious bodily injury of another person. The law further requires that police agencies also report to the Department of Criminal Justice Service when one of the following is initiated by an officer:
In an effort to provide greater transparency of the Saugerties Police Department arrest activity. The Saugerties Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative Committee recommended that arrest demographics be part of the police department’s monthly reporting; further suggesting that posting such information on the police department Web page would make for easy access by the public. In order to provide a baseline of arrest activity, we have provided the 2019 and 2020 arrest demographics. In addition, we will provide monthly updates for the current year. Please keep in mind that the Census data was last updated following the 2010 Census count. Percentages for each ethnicity represented is subject to change based on the release of the 2020 Census data.
